[ARTICLE] Wonder Rookie Lee Hi Cautions Hopeful Lovers with “Rose”

For all their scheduling hang-ups, YG Entertainment certainly is doing things right by their newest artist. The second half of rookie songstress Lee Hi‘s first album was released today, spearheaded by the lead single “Rose.” It’s hard to believe that Hi’s only 17 when she busts out world-weary lyrics in that mature voice of hers — even when First Love is the name of the game.

Composed and arranged by 1TYM members Song Baekkyung and Teddy, pop ballad “Rose” takes Lee Hi’s soft image and sharpens it up a bit (she even raps a bit!).  My love is a red rose//it’s beautiful now, but my sharp thorns will hurt you is the song’s sad and wary refrain, further emphasizing the concept change from her bubbly previous single, “It’s Over.”

While you seriously consider picking up Lee Hi’s First Love on iTunes, check out the “Rose” MV below, in which teddy-bear boyfriends and colorful balloons are replaced with chaotic camerawork and an army fighting through a forest of thorns.
